Create a scan-to-network folder under Windows

1.   Create a new folder on the remote computer,unless you want to use an existing folder.

2.   Right-click the folder and select Properties.

3.   In the Sharing tab, click the Advanced Sharing button.

4.   Check the Share this folder box.

5.   You need to ensure that the 'scanner user' has full read/write control over the shared folder. To do this,click Permissions and grant Full Control to the user (or to any suitable group that includes that user).

6.   If there is a Security tab in the Properties window for your folder, then you must also grant the same user Full Control over the folder in the Security tab. Only some file systems such as NTFS require this. The 'scanner user' can now access the folder and write files to it. Next, you must configure the printer to send scans to the folder.

Configure a scan-to-network or scan-to-FTP folder

 

NOTE:The printer accesses shared folders (as a client) using NTLMv1-based authentication. If, for security reasons, you prefer not to expose user credentials using NTLMv1, you should avoid using a scan-to-network or scan-to-FTP folder.

 

1.   In the printer's Embedded Web Server, selectthe Setup tab and then Scan to network.

2.   On the Scan to Network page, click Add folder details, and fill in the various fields.

·        Protocol may be FTP or CIFS (Windows).

·        Folder type may be public or private. The folder type is displayed in both the Embedded Web Server and the front panel with an icon. When you select a private folder, you must enter a password in the front panel.

·        Alias name is displayed in the front panel when you are choosing the scan destination. It may be different from the network orFTP folder name.

·        Server name should contain the network name of the remote computer.

·        Folder name should contain the share name of the folder.

·        Username should contain the name of the'scanner user'.

·        User password should contain the password of the'scanner user'.

·        Domain name should contain the name of the domain in which the user name exists. If the scanner user' does not belong to any domain, leave this field empty.

 

The server and folder names are used to connect to the shared folder by building a network folder path

as follows: \\servername\folder name

 

3.   Click Add to save the configuration.

 

NOTE: If the product has already been configured for scanning to the network and you now want to use a different shared folder, click Modify.

 

4.     The printer automatically checks that it can access the network folder.

 

You can check at any later time that the shared folder remains accessible by clicking Verify in the Embedded Web Server. A correctly configured shared folder can become inaccessible if the user’s password is changed, or if the shared folder is moved or deleted.

Scan to file

1.     Load the sheet with the printed side facing upwards. Align the center of the sheet approximately with the center of the scanner. Use the standard size markings to help you.

 

2.   Push the sheet into the insertion slot until you feel it contact the rollers. The scanner will automatically grab the sheet and move it into position for scanning. If yofeel that the sheet has loaded badland you want to try again, you can pull it out manually.

 

3.   Athe front panel, go to the home screen and press SCAN, then scan and store a file in each of the 3 locations.

 

·        In a USB flash drive

·        In a network folder (a folder on a computer that iaccessible through the network)

·        In HP Designjet ePrint & Share

 

 

4.   Some of the default scan settings are displayed. Press Settings to see the complete list of settings, and check in particular that the Original Typsetting corresponds to the paper type that you intend to scan.

 

·        Format allows you to specify the format of the file in which the scanned image will be saved: TIFF, JPEG or (witthe T2500 PS only) PDF.

 

·        Compression allows you to specify the level of compression: maximum, high (the default level),medium, or low. This option is available if the format is JPEG or PDF.

 

·        Resolution allows you to specify the scan resolution: Standard (200 dpi), High (300 dpi), oMax (600 dpi).

 

·        Coloallows you to choose color, grayscale or black and white scanning.

 

·        Content Type allows you to optimize the scan for a line drawing, a photographic image, or a mixed image.

 

·        Original Typallows you to specify the paper type on which the original image has been printed.To optimize scan quality, ensure that this setting is correct.

 

·        Background Removal allows you to remove unwanted background color. You can specify the strength of this setting, from 0 to 10.

 

·        BlueprintInvert allows you to generate a scanned image with a light background. It is useful when the original you intend to scan is a blueprint with a dark background. This option is available only if the Original Type is set to Blueprints.

 

NOTE:    If you change the settings in this way, the changesettings apply to the current job buarnot saved permanently. You can change most of the default settings frothe main menu by going to Scan Preferences.

 

5.   When you are satisfied with the scan settings, press anywhere on the screen to return to the previous page, and then press Start.

 

6.   Once the original has been scanned, you can (if you like)check the file size and change the automatically-generated file name of the scanned image.

 

7.   If you arscanning to a USB flasdrive, wait until the scanned image has been saved in a file, then presst he USB Icon on the front panel and then press Eject. Remove the USB flash drive when prompted by the front panel.

 

8.   Press the arrow icon on the front panel to eject the scanned sheet from the scanner;bready to pick it up from the rear of the Printer.

 

9.   After scanning, you can choose to scan again or go to the job queue.

 

TIP:     All scan jobs are saved in the scan queue, where they can be accessed by any user. If your job is private,you may wish to delete it from the queue after recovering the image file.

 

TIP:     If you scan an image to a file and then decide to print itone or more times, you can change the print settingsevery time. You can also save itto another location.

 

Creating a Copy

1.     Load thesheet with the printed side facing upwards.Align the center of the sheet approximately with the center of the scanner. Usethe standard size markings to help you.

 

NOTE: The maximum length of paper that the scanner canscan depends on the paper width and the scanresolution. An alert is displayed if the maximum length is exceeded.

 

2.     Push thesheet into the insertion slot until you feel it contact the rollers. Thescanner will automatically grab the sheet and move itinto position for scanning. If you feel that the sheet has loaded badly and youwant to try again, you can pull it out manually.

 

3.   At the front panel, go to the home screen andpress the COPY icon.

 

4.     Some of the default copy settings are displayed. Press Settings to see the complete list of settings, and check in particular that the Paper type setting corresponds to the paper type that you intend to scan.

 

·        Size allows you to resize the print in two different ways: to a percentage of its original size, or to fit a particula rpaper size. The default is 100% (its original size).

 

·        Copy quality allows you to set the print quality to Best, Normal or Fast.

 

 

·        Copy color allows you to choose color or grayscale printing.

 

·        Roll allows you to specify printing on roll1 or roll 2, or you can choose Save paper, which automatically chooses the narrowest roll on which the print will fit.

 

·        Job output allows you to send the print to stacker or basket.

 

·        Content type allows you to optimize the scan for a line drawing, a photographic image, or a mixed image.

 

·        Original type allows you to specify the paper type on which the original image has been printed. To optimize scan quality, ensure that this setting is correct.

 

NOTE: If you change the settings in this way, the changed settings apply to the current job but are not saved permanently. You can change most of the default settings frothe main menu by going to Copy preferences.

 

5.   When you are satisfied with the copy settings,press anywhere on the screen to return to the previous page, and then press Start.

 

6.   If two rolls are loaded, you can choose to print on either roll, or you can let the printer choose automatically.

 

NOTE: The printer will automatically rotate the image by 90° if it can save paper by doing so.

 

7.   When the scan is complete, press to eject the scanned sheet from the scanner; be ready to pick it up.

 

8.   While the scanned image is being printed, you can perform some other operation: you don't need to wait for the end of the print.

 

9.   After printing, you can choose to make another copy or go to the job queue. If you make another copy immediately without returning to the home screen, the temporary settings used for the previous copy are used again.

 

NOTE: By default, if the original is skewed in the scanner (not loaded straight), the scanner will try to correct the skew automatically. To turn off this automatic correction, go to the Main Menu, then Scan Preferences > De-skew >Off.

 

Scanning to File using Different Compression Settings

1.     Load the sheet with the printed side facing upwards.Align the center of the sheet approximately with the center of the scanner. Use the standard size markings to help you.

 

2.   Push the sheet into the insertion slot until you feel it contact the rollers. The scanner will automatically grab the sheet and move it into position for scanning. If yofeel that the sheet has loaded badland you want to try again, you can pull it out manually.

 

3.   Athe front panel, go to the home screen and press SCAN, then scan and store a file in either the USB or Network Folder using the following settings:

 

·       Format - PDF.

 

·       Compression - Maximum.

 

·       Resolution - High (300 dpi).

 

·       Color- Color.

 

·       Content Type - Mixed Image.

 

4.     Now repeat the scan using the same settings as before but this time change the Compression to High.

 

5.     Now repeat the scan using the same settings as before but this time change the Compression to Medium.

 

6.     Now repeat the scan using the same settings as before but this time change the Compression to Low.

 

7.     Compare the 4 scans of the same image and see the file size differences as well quality differences.

 

 

Scanning Blueprints

1.     Print out the Blueprint Sample.pdf.

 

2.     Once printed, load the printout with the printed side facing upwards. Align the center of the sheet approximately with the center of the scanner. Use the standard size markings to help you.

 

3.   Athe front panel, go to the home screen and press SCAN, then scan and store a file in either the USB or Network Folder using the following settings:

 

·       Format - PDF.

 

·       Compression - Medium.

 

·       Resolution - High (300 dpi).

 

·       Color- Grayscale.

 

·       Content Type - Lines.

 

·       Original Paper Type – Blueprints

 

·       Blue prints Invert – On

 

·       Background Removal – 10

 

4.     Open the resulting scan file and check that the Blueprint has been inverted.

 

Calibrating the Scanner

1.   Go to the front panel, enter the main menu and then Image Quality Maintenance > Calibrate scanner.

 

2.   Follow the instructions in the front panel.

 

3.   Remove the Calibration sheet from the Tube that came with the Printer.

 

4.   Load the maintenance sheet into the scanner face up, centered and with as little skew as possible.

 

5.   Once the calibration is finished,the maintenance sheet should be carefully placed into its solid tube, and saved in a fresh and dry place. Otherwise, it could be damaged, which could affect the operation of the scanner in the future. Check that the maintenance sheet is not dirty, wrinkled, scratched or folded before calibrating the scanner.

 

If the calibration fails:

·        Ensure that the printer is turned on and ready for normal operation.

·        Ensure that the scanner is working correctly. To test it, scan a small document to file.

·        Ensure that the scanner is clean before calibration. If in doubt, clean the scanner and restart the

·        Calibration process.

·        Eject and reload the calibration sheet, checking that it is clean, in good condition, face up and perfectly centered in the scanner.

·        If the above steps do not help,eject the sheet and restart the printer (turn off and on). When the system has restarted, repeat the calibration.

 

Scanning Long Plots

Unlike with the T2300, the T2500 does NOT need to have Long Plot Scanning enabled in the Service Menu and nor does it need the Scan Guides.

1.     Print out the Long Plot sample file (if not already printed).

 

2.     Load the Long Plot with the printed side facing upwards. Align the center of the sheet approximately with the center of the scanner. Use the standard size markings to help you.

 

3.   Push the sheet into the insertion slot until you feel it contact the rollers. The scanner will automatically grab the sheet and move it into position for scanning. If yofeel that the sheet has loaded badland you want to try again, you can pull it out manually.

 

4.   Make sure that automatic Skew correction is turned ON by going to the Main Menu, then Scan Preferences > De-skew> On.

 

5.     At the front panel, go to the home screen and press SCAN, then scan and store the file in either the network drive or a USB Flash Drive.

 

 

6.   Open up the file and check that it is scanned completely and correctly.

Some notes to consider when scanning long plots

Maximum scanning length (JPEG / PDF) - Scan length limit is related to selected resolution only.

·        The maximum number of rows of pixels that can be generated is 65,535 rows.

·        Additionally, PDF v 1.4 sets a length limit setof 16.4 feet (5 meters)

Maximum scanning length (TIFF) - Scan length limit is related to selected resolution and Media Width.

·        TIFF files larger than 2GB have shown corruption issues, so as a safety precaution it is not possible to create TIFF files that are bigger than 1.75GB.
